Foreign nationals can be found to be inadmissible to Canada on the grounds of criminality under Canada’s immigration law. This can be because of both minor and serious crimes. If you have committed or been convicted of a crime, you can attempt to overcome this criminal admissibility. Depending on the crime and when it occurred, you may be allowed to enter the country if you:

  • Convince an immigration officer you meet the legal terms to be “deemed rehabilitated”
  • Applied for rehabilitation with the Canadian government and were approved
  • Were granted a record suspension, or
  • Have a temporary resident permit
