At Sultan Lawyers, our knowledgeable team of immigration lawyers regularly advise foreign nationals from all over the world on how to apply for permanent residency through various streams, including Express Entry and Family Sponsorships.
We provide legal guidance and advisory services to foreign nationals looking to settle in Canada. We have deep knowledge of Canadian immigration legislation and regulations, and the permanent residency application process.
The Express Entry (“EE”) system is a process where individuals interested in moving to Canada submit an EE profile online to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (“IRCC”). Applicants are then assessed and scored on a range of eligibility criteria including (but not limited to):
The EE system then provides a Comprehensive Ranking System (“CRS”) score, which is compared to other potential applicants’ scores. IRCC conducts regular draws (see our social media channels from same-day updates) which results in invitations to individuals to apply for permanent residency. Draws are conducted multiple times a year (and often multiple times a month), and the score required to trigger an invitation depends on the candidates in the pool at the time and their respective scores.
Sponsoring a spouse or partner is one of the most common ways that foreign nationals obtain permanent residency in Canada. However, because of both the risk of abuse to the system, the responsibilities and financial undertaking of the sponsor, these applications are scrutinized heavily and should therefore be completed thoroughly and with proper attention paid to the details.
The most important component of a spousal sponsorship application is to prove to IRCC that your marriage or relationship is genuine and not entered into for the purposes of immigrating to Canada.
