Yes.
The Government of Canada is allowing employers to register Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (“SUB”) plans with Service Canada that would allow them to top-up EI benefits for employees on a deemed job-protected leave during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While employers are permitted to top-up employees’ EI benefits, they are not permitted to top-up the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (“CRSB”), the Canada Recovery Benefit (“CRB”) or the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (“CRCB”).
Employers that wish to provide a top-up must submit a SUB plan to Service Canada prior to its effective date and must also provide written notice of any changes to the plan within 30 days of the changes coming into effect.
If you have been placed on a deemed job-protected leave or your employment has been terminated, and you would like clarity with respect to the government supports available, please contact Toronto employment lawyers, Sultan Lawyers at 416-214-5111 or via email to khayward@sultanlawyers.com.
