In order to qualify as a conjugal relationship, you and your partner must fulfill the following requirements:
- The person being sponsored must be living outside of Canada;
- You must be in a conjugal relationship for at least one (1) year; and
- The reason that the person being sponsored could not live with the sponsor must be due to reasons beyond their control (i.e., religious reasons, sexual orientation, immigration barriers, etc.)
In addition, you will only be able to sponsor a conjugal partner if you can demonstrate that there is a significant attachment and interdependent relationship. In other words, you must be able to show that the relationship is genuine and not solely physical.
