In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions the Government of Canada has put in place in response, including the closure of the Canadian border, most foreign nationals can no longer apply for a work permit at the port of entry.
However, some foreign nationals may be permitted to apply for a work permit at a port of entry if the following conditions are satisfied:
- The foreign national is entering Canada from the United States (and is not participating in “flagpoling”);
- The foreign national has a fourteen (14) day quarantine plan in place upon arrival to Canada;
- The foreign national has a valid job offer; and
- The foreign national meets other requirements, including that he/she does not need a visitor visa to travel to Canada.
If you are interested in applying for a work permit and require further information with respect to whether you may be eligible to apply at the port of entry, please contact Toronto employment and immigration lawyers, Sultan Lawyers, at (416) 214-5111 or via email to mlahert@sultanlawyers.com.
